How to care for skin during pregnancy so it stays flawless, even after childbirth

It’s fair to say that most women want to look beautiful at all times, even if they have a baby on the way. This is even more the case in this era of posing for pregnancy shoots and gender reveal photos. But how can we stay beautiful without causing any side effects for our babies? If you normally rely on fillers, Botox or laser sessions, that can no longer be an option during pregnancy. Even some skincare products are risky for pregnant mothers, such as ones containing vitamin A (Retinol), salicylic acid, and even essential oils. This leaves a lot of expectant mothers asking what can they use?!

During pregnancy, there are many changes in the endocrine system that produces hormones, which has multiple impacts on your body, skin and even your feelings. So we’re going to explain how you can take care of yourself and stay feeling beautiful from head to toe during pregnancy.

Skincare for pregnant mothers

During pregnancy, it is common for the skin to change due to hormonal imbalances. Some people may experience dry and flaky skin, some may see their skin darkening slightly (particularly on the neck), and some may develop oily skin and acne even if they never previously had it.

Thankfully, you can still use a complete skincare routine, you just have to be careful about which products you use. The main focus should be on moisturization because during pregnancy, the hormone responsible for helping to keep your skin moisturized will be diverted to the fetus, so you might feel like your skin has become thinner and drier. Therefore, you should choose products for dry or sensitive skin that focus on retaining water, such as hyaluronic acid, as well as strengthening and protecting the skin.

Most importantly, you should still use sunscreen, however, do not use chemical sunscreen.
Pregnant women should also exfoliate and use face masks. The scrubs should be the ones without beads so there will be no irritation from scrubbing. Exfoliating products that contain papaya enzymes are perfect at helping to reduce dark spots that often occur during pregnancy.
Then apply a mask. You can use a sheet mask or a cream-based sleep mask and leave it on overnight, for extra dry skin. It is recommended to use serums and facial creams that contain plant extracts such as shea butter.

For the skin around your eyes, choose an eye cream that contains various peptides to help stimulate collagen production. And for the skin around the neck and chest, pay particular attention, particularly if you are breastfeeding. Keep this area clean and use a cream specifically for the neck. Ones that contain Kigelia Africana Extract are perfect. Apply from the chin down to the chest to increase firmness.

Your facial skin is particularly delicate and should be taken care of continuously, particularly during this period when your skin will be deprived of nutrients that are being diverted to feed the baby.

As for facials, gentle facials (not microdermabrasion or a strong peel) can be safely done throughout most of your pregnancy, although lying on your back for long periods should be avoided during your third trimester. You can also massage your face at home 1-2 times a month. Facial massage should help you relax while also encouraging the facial muscles to be firmer, resulting in better water retention in the skin.

Exfoliation for pregnant mothers

Did your grandmother ever tell you not to exfoliate your skin during pregnancy because it will cause your skin to crack? This is actually only true if you exfoliate without following up with a nourishing moisturizer. In fact, exfoliating once a week will help stimulate your body to create new skin cells, increase blood and lymph circulation and eliminate toxins from your body.

Going to Munique Club Spa for exfoliation along with a relaxing aromatherapy massage once a week will help you feel pampered inside and out, and our massage oils will help to reduce stretch marks.

Caring for your scalp and hair during pregnancy

During pregnancy, your hair may become thicker due to the surge in hormones. During this period, a scalp and hair spa will help strengthen and prepare you for the postpartum period – the first 4 months in which some hair may fall out. If you take care of the scalp during pregnancy, after you give birth, any hair that falls out due to (more) hormonal changes should be able to grow back strong and shiny.

Head, neck and shoulder massages can also help reduce pregnancy aches and pains. So don’t forget to pamper yourself while you’re pregnant. The happiness of a mother directly affects the happiness of the baby in the womb.
